retail business closed after 48 years

Cottage Flowers Coventry Gardens of London Coventry Designs by Rachel

A new chapter begins, after 48 wonderful years in the florist industry - through Cottage Flowers, Coventry Gardens of London, and Coventry Designs by Rachel - our retail business has officially closed. This work has been more than a career; it's been our family's story. We're deeply grateful to every customer, partner, and friend who shared this journey with us. While this chapter has ended, a new one is beginning. I am currently writing a memoir about our family's path through the industry - the people, the challenges, the creativity, and the heart behind the work. This website will remain active as a place to share updates, reflections, and stories as the book takes shape. Thank you for being apart of our story ~ Rachel

Our Roots

Established in 1978

Our story began in the 1970s, when Sandy Bakker crafted delicate ribbon roses by hand, transforming them into timeless silk and dried arrangements for Safeway stores throughout Southwest Washington. Her artistry and attention to detail soon drew a devoted following, inspiring her to leave the corporate world and open her own flower shop. In 1978, Cottage Flowers bloomed in Hermiston, Oregon. Sandy’s years in Hermiston were filled with creativity, community, and growth. Her shop became a beloved part of local life — a place where flowers marked milestones and memories. In the late 1980s, she sold Cottage Flowers and began a new chapter with Coventry Gardens of London, blending her love of floristry with the charm of her British heritage. The addition of a tea boutique and imported goods gave the shop its signature touch of classic elegance. Through the years, Sandy designed and delivered beauty, joy, and comfort — often with her daughter Rachel by her side. Growing up among the scent of fresh blooms and the rhythm of floral design, Rachel inherited both her mother’s eye for artistry and her heart for connection.
In 2016, Sandy passed the torch to Rachel — a graceful changing of the guard, true to tradition. Rachel continued Coventry Gardens in Camas, Washington, where she served her community for eight years with the same devotion to craft and care. Sandy's love for flowers began at age five, when she would gather bluebells and deliver them around her hometown of Welling, Kent, England on her little red bicycle. Today, she enjoys her retirement tending her flower gardens, nurturing blooms with the same joy that first carried her down those village lanes.
Rachel carries forward the legacy in a new way. Her floral artistry has transitioned into a curated, boutique approach — with exclusive weekly designs featured at Runyan’s Jewelers. Each arrangement is a quiet homage to heritage, craftsmanship, and the beauty that blooms through generations.
From one generation to the next, our flowers are more than arrangements — they’re moments of history, crafted with heart.
